Active East Creates Community of Volunteers and Sports Leaders

By Alistair Neil, Active East Youth Development Coordinator

Since its inception in 2014, Scottish Sports Futures’ Active East programme has created a community of young sports leaders and volunteers.

Active East has worked across the East End of Glasgow since the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Our young volunteers and network of partners work across many of the communities in the East End. Every week the Active Champions, Ready Steady Leaders, Mini Mentors and now our Chance:2:Be participants are volunteering at local community projects where they are supported through their volunteer journey. Since 2014 these young people have given over 40,000 volunteer hours to supporting their local communities. The community spirit all the Active Champions has shown just how important they feel their local community is to them. That passion to assist and lead within the community is amazing to see and is so inspiring to others around them!
